"Trio and Duo"
Cynthia Maus is an American painter who has long admired works of great artists such as JMW Turner, Monet, Bierstadt, Caravaggio, A. Mucha, Maxfield Parrish. and others. She is inspired by the beauty of nature, stained glass windows, historic church architecture, by travels, beloved music like Handel's Messiah, great hymns and chants, Mozart, Ravel, Brahms and others, great literature, and from meaningful, pleasant conversations with gentle humor, and of course family, loved ones, friends, charitable works : All of these things and more remind her of God's abundant variety of blessings, along with the best in human achievement. Her paintings are gratitude in abstract and simple colorful expressions - thankyou notes on canvas, of travels and observations.
Ms. Maus is also a musician. She taught piano, theory, music history, and school classroom music. She has worked in a variety of classical and liturgical ensembles as instrumentalist, singer, and choir director. During the 2000's, she was involved with touring, production, promotion, and recording with her late husband John Walker of 60's group "The Walker Brothers".
Her paintings are a tribute to Nature's Chorus: "In my daily experiences I've become so aware that - along with birds and animals - the trees are singing, along with the sky, the clouds, sunshine, moon, stars, and shadows, the wind, rain, streams, oceans, waves, earth, sand, flowers and their colors - all constantly singing in their unique and blending voices. It's a glorious presentation . It's everywhere! A fantastic, universal choir. And it never ends.
I hope my paintings help people to become more aware of the powerful, the gentle, and sometimes even amusing harmonies of nature that we encounter everyday. That is my goal: see the music."
